Who I am
I have started three things. A hardware product, a trading system, and now a company. None of them resemble each other, and that turns out to be the useful part.
Hardware taught me operations. Trading taught me uncertainty. Both turn out to be the job.
Three businesses, three kinds of difficulty
The background, briefly, because it is the least interesting part. I studied Computational Business Analytics at Frankfurt School, with a semester at Stellenbosch. Alongside it I did AI engineering at Bankhaus Metzler and quantitative research at Wunderland Capital. Useful training, and not the reason you would talk to me.
I built MINI DASH first: a plug-and-play display for cars. I designed it, sourced it, dealt with the suppliers, arranged the shipping, ran the shop, negotiated with retailers, handled the returns, and answered every support email myself. It is still running and still profitable. It taught me that the difficulty in a physical product is almost never the product.
Then a crypto hedge bot, with the people who are now my co-founders. An automated system trading our own money, still running today. Probability estimation, market inefficiencies, automated execution, and hedging across positions whose correlations were an assumption we could be wrong about. It taught me what calibration feels like when it costs something, and it taught me how these two specific people behave when a live system is misbehaving at an inconvenient hour.
Now a third company, with the same two people. It is in stealth, so the manifesto is all there is to read. What I will say is that it is the most ambitious of the three by a wide margin, and that it draws on both of the others more directly than I expected it to.
